This is for a class discussion. The response should be around 200-250 words. It is based on the reading I put in here as a PDF. (No sources, just the attached PDF) The question is: Is there “a” Jewish Story?  What factors complicate this question? Alternatively: What did you find most interesting from this day’s class materials and why? Here is an example of an answer but ONLY use as an example as this is another student’s work. “There is “a” Jewish story, but there is no one Jewish story. The Jewish story has developed over time.  With “a” Jewish story, comes the idea of dominate and subordinate narratives. This is very evident in the Jewish story. Many times subordinate narratives are not included in the main Jewish story or “a” Jewish story. At the same time, there is no one Jewish story or “the” Jewish story. Ashkenazi has become the dominant narrative. I find this interesting, as I feel there are ways to have a pluralistic narrative.  The different narrative are one way that this does complicate “a” Jewish story.  Ashkenazi was not always the dominant narrative, but it seems to be the case today. “A” Jewish story is also complicated because people find different meaning in different things. This also goes along with the idea that map is not territory. The Jewish religion has a major focus of the mapping of time. The mapping of time may mean different things for different people, though. This adds to the fact that there is “a” Jewish story, but there is not necessarily one narrative to the story. For example, everybody does not observe shabbat in the same way, but there still is “a” Jewish story. “A” Jewish story does not have to have a single narrative.”
