Some major human atrocities have been committed in the name of science, and not just by Nazis. The US has a poor history with research ethics. I’ve included a couple of links below that will shed some light on social science research that harmed participants. The last two links “Long” and “Short” correspond with long and short informative videos about the Tuskegee Syphilis Expereiment. Be sure to review the syphilis study recruitment letter. Unfortunately, many of my students seem to have little-to-no knowledge about the Tuskegee syphilis study. It is important that this history is not lost over time. I recently asked a classroom of 19 how many were familiar with the Tuskegee Syphilis Study, and only one student was familiar with the story.
