THESE ARE THE INSTRUCTIONS PROVIDED: The idea of “romance of illusions” has been a recurring theme in the discussions we have had. Explain the significance of this concept in relation to any two works we’ve read, drawing connections between the two texts. Your thesis (in the introduction) would define the “romance of illusions” and you would use the texts to support and illustrate your ideas. Louise Mallard, after learning of her husband’s death in a train accident, goes up to her room alone. There she comes to the realization that she’s free, and imagines all the years ahead of her as a free woman. But her husband, it turns out, was not killed. At the first sight of him at the front door at the end of the story, she dies instantly. His death was true until it was an illusion. Her dream of freedom, the truest thing she has known, was entirely based on the illusion of his death. She felt the truth of her own freedom – for an hour – until that truth collides with the external world.” GENERAL ROMANCE OF ILLUSIONS EXAMPLES’: “Dreams are true, while they last.””Illusions are paradoxical””Illusions are always true & never true at the same time (paradoxical)””Illusions can’t exist in the present. Can only live in the past.”
