The questions from the first position that influenced my decision was its explanation on the teaching of advanced specialization courses, answered in the third question, “The ad mentions ‘advanced specialization courses’ can be taught. Can you tell me more about this?” It is necessary for any educational institution to further explain the pedagogical requisites and expectations for any subject.The second notable question was regarding the equivalency component of the curriculum. Reduction of course loads incurred by time-consuming projects and tasks is an impressive benefit to the job as it allows for flexibility and appropriation of responsibilities in consideration of one’s time. The second position also posed its two questions that I deemed of value, where the first question explained the work unit model that was observed in the school. A thorough explanation of its committee composition and its translation to unit numbers was of vital importance in determining the position if it was the right fit for my goals.The second question regarding the infrastructural support provided by the school in terms of software was also necessary, especially the added benefit of training provision for such software package to be utilized since the job is online in nature. According to Oliver (2006), online courses are efficient when they are engineered as distinct teaching settings with the necessary materials (Oliver, 2006) instead of being considered as a version to the traditional, in-person teaching. Along with the emergence of technology and the World Wide Web came the surfacing of ample opportunity in various industries including education and I would choose the second job offer as it is in line with the technological shift in education. Articulated by Oliver (2000), evaluation of the job provisions within online teaching is essential to learn the mechanisms and standards for quality education assurance (Oliver, 2000). Some 20 or 30 years ago, teachers were facing dilemma on job offers that entailed physical distance from one’s home location. If teachers had to decide to work at the east coast or the west cost, today teachers have to decide to work at home, at a coffee shop remotely. Today, the chances of a teacher’s success in pedagogy is magnified with the emergence of technologies that pave the way for more opportunities for growth, personal development, and the fulfillment of educational goals. In the same way that automobiles were once foreign, it is no denial that online education is yet to be normalized. However, as early as these current times, teachers should equip themselves with the necessary tools and skills needed to flourish in this new environment as the normalization and mass acceptance of online education is fast approaching. I chose the online teaching job position as it affords me of the opportunity to learn within this new setting, and sustainably attain knowledge on effective teaching implementations and strategies that can equip me for today and the future.ReferencesOliver, M.
