Please don’t mention anything about your college life, unless you had a specific experience that changed your life or your world view.4. Your Artist Statement should include a description of[1] What do you do, artistically? Do you paint, draw, sculpt, design? What are the characteristics of your work? What are some influences? (When discussing influences, such as an other artist or designer, describe the qualities of their work rather than just giving their name. So, rather than saying,,,,I’m influenced by Vincent Van Gogh, describe instead how you are influenced by the colors, painting techniques, brushstrokes, lines, colors etc of the work.[2] How do you your work? Describe the materials you use in detail. What are the colors, fabrics and techniques that you use? [3] Why do you do what you do? What is your motivation? Why did you decide to be a designer rather than a doctor (going to medical school and being a doctor is probably easier than being an artist). What were some events, experiences that had a profound effect on you? Or is it the response that you get from your audience that attracts you?
