What can be seen as the “start” of the American city (the “escape” from the Old World to the New World, the original displacement of American Indians to form what became the United States) and a contemporary context of the American city (processes suburbanization, which embodied and entrenched class and ethnic segregation). For this part of the assignment, choose one major city that is not Los Angeles in the United States. Do some light research and find out what American Indian groups lived on those lands before the development of the city by settlers (review reliable sources: established news/journalism outlets, governmental/intergovernmental publications, academic journals, etc.). Give a short history of when the city was founded, and the current racial composition of the city.
