In this next assignment, we cover both Chapters Two (Constitution) and Three (Federalism). To that end, I really do expect to see the choice of a federal system (federalism) discussed in your paper and, if I may, not just a blithe nod but a good solid examination as it relates to the seminar question, to wit, how did the choice of the federal model influence or was influenced by the Madisonian Model. Remember: the Madisonian Model, the balance of power evidenced in the Constitution, INCLUDES the roles of the states and the electorate. The Federalist / Anti-federalist debate that occurred during the ratification process is not synonymous with the federal system or the choice of a federal model. They are totally apples and oranges, folks. Please don’t fall into that incorrect argument. With that in mind, I’d imagine that your listening to the third lecture on Federalist Theory would be foundational and, indeed, I would be surprised not to see Federalist Theory mentioned and developed in depth in your paper.
