What do you make of his philosophy as set up in Part I?

He is often called the Underground Man. What do you make of his philosophy as set up in Part I? What do you think of him in his actions in Part II? Why do you think he is underground and why does the story end the way it does (paying particular attention to the last little paragraph)? Explain!
