1. What is gender equality in your view? R. Being from a country where women account for more than 52% of the population, and represent the backbones of the economic, I think that Gender equality is a way to reproduce in our laws and social infrastructure what already exist in our daily lives. It’s a way of recognizing an imbalance that has already been contrary to the laws of nature. In fact, it goes beyond sharing the same opportunities, rights and privileges between men and women. It also entails teaching young girls and women about the importance of using their voices not only to be heard but also to lead. For instance, the Haitian constitution promotes a Quota of 30% of women in public administration and official positions, yet we are still struggling with the lack of women’s participation in elections or other positions of power. How much of an impact do you feel having a female leader has had on gender equality in your country? 4. Each of you come from a different region of the world. Do you feel that gender equality in your country has been influenced by your neighborhood / surrounding countries? 5. Is gender equality an issue being discussed in your home country?
