What is your opinion on stimulus checks?

During the Great Depression, the federal government was reluctant to provide outright stimulus payments to the American people. Even with the New Deal programs, money was generally tied to public works jobs. In our current economic situation, as a result of the coronavirus shutdowns, the federal government provided a stimulus check to every taxpaying citizen. What should the government’s role be during economic crises, such as an economic depression or forced shutdown? What is your opinion on stimulus checks? What are the pros and cons of stimulus payments? What alternatives might the government have to stimulus payments?
