There are two parts to this unit’s Group Discussion: (1) Your Group Discussion Post/Thread (target 400 words) and (2) Comments to two of your peers’ posts (target 50 words apiece)Part One: Group Discussion Post/Thread. “My Rebooted CBS 1970s Sitcom” (Target 400 words)For this Group Discussion, I’m asking you to use this unit’s My TV Log #2 and #3 journal explorations to build your Group Discussion Post/Thread based on the following prompt:Of the three significant television sitcoms that helped define CBS as well as the 1970s as a “Decade of Relevance” (All in the Family, The Mary Tyler Moore Show, M*A*S*H), select one to reboot for today’s audience. Use this group discussion to build upon the Unit 03 My TV Log explorations and give your reboot dimension, specificity, and flare (with images as needed).What’s a reboot? One meaning for the verb “boot” is “to start.” So, reboot is to restart (i.e. rebooting a computer…) For television and other media, a reboot is a new, fresh take of an older, well-recognized series. In movies, Spiderman and Batman have been rebooted numerous times. For television, we’ve seen recent reboots of Roseanne, SWAT, Will and Grace, Lost in Space…Your Group Discussion Post/Thread will be a written summary or television “pitch” describing your reboot (target 400 words), and needs to include the following four (4) subtopics:Setting: Where would you set it and when? (Very important when considering the time setting: both All in the Family and The Mary Tyler Moore Show were set “in present” time; this was significant because both series effectively addressed contemporary issues. M*A*S*H was set during the Korean Conflict, but it debuted when America was still embroiled in the Vietnam War, allowing “present day” viewership identification and reflection.)Characters: What changes would you make to the core cast of characters (gender, ethnicity, profession…)?
