Please answer the following question in essay format*: Why do Buddhists and Christians (Catholics specifically) confess? What is the end goal of their confessions? In your answer, please discuss the ideas of sin & negativities (think original sin, afflictions, etc.) as well as the (very basic) belief structure of each religion. In your essay, you should consider the power dynamic that exists in each confession ritual. You should provide me with both points of contrast and comparison in these practices, and you must quote the text (or at least allude to sections by paraphrasing/giving page #’s etc.) The more evidence that you can provide of your close reading and interpretation, the better.
