Write a dialogue by imitating Ernest Hemingway’s “Hills Like White Elephants.” What I would like to see is a conversation, between to characters, where much of the conversation’s substance is unstated–think Hemingway’s tip-of-the-iceberg minimalism. Who these characters are and what they’re talking about is entirely up to you.The purpose of this exercise is to help us in writing meaningful, believable dialogue, wherein we take special care to choose the right words needed to effectively communicate. You’re allowed to use action tags (e.g., “She sat at the table and folded her hands.”), but let’s try to focus mostly on dialogue.
