For 100 days, people like Clementine Wamariya and her sister, Claire, fled from Hutus wielding machetes, looking for blood–looking to cleanse Rwanda of their countrymen, whom they labeled “cockroaches.” In that time, many Tutsis fled Rwanda into neighboring countries such as the DRC, Kenya, and Tanzania. They became refugees. In 1947, a fictional character named Blanche DuBois also fled her home. Labled an outcast, Blanche was ejected from Laurel, her hometown in Mississippi, and forced to find refuge with her sister, Stella, in New Orleans, Louisiana. Stripped her home, legacy, inheritance, and integrity, Blanche also became a refugee.
