To your great wonder, you have just discovered that bakers’ yeast, and brewers’ yeast are the same organism, Saccharomyces cerevisiae. Even more surprising to you is that S. cerevisiae is a facultative anaerobe. Write an essay that explains to your dad, a novice baker, why this is important. Start by explaining what is meant by “facultative anaerobe” and explain how yeast are able to switch from aerobic to anaerobic respiration. Your answer should include the different pathways that are involved in each process. Provide an example of how you might force yeast to switch from aerobic respiration to anaerobic respiration (think about what happens to yeast in either the baking or the brewing process).Your summary should be typed in Times New Roman 12-pt font and be one-and-a-half-spaced with 1” margins.
