In the 1960s (and prior), rehabilitation and reform were the norm. Criminal offenders were given shorter sentences, a greater chance for parole, support in finding work or going back to school. Is it possible to return to a punishment model like this, or have we come too far in incarceration practices to turn back? Have we crossed “a bridge too far” in incarceration policies?
