Take time to think back (and look back) at everything you’ve learned and written about. As well as the thoughts shared on the discussion forums. Respond:Personal Relation*Provide at least two specific examples from two different topics/chapters to support your response:What are specific trends/concepts/data etc. that were covered in this course that resonated to your personal experience and/or stood out to your interests most closely? Explain how what you learned within studying the sociology of the American family has added to the way you now think about your experience, expectations and/or observations related to family (this could also include topics related to before forming families, like dating and romance; as well as you can include anything you learned from reading other classmates responses to the topics) The Family + Society*Provide at least two examples from two other topics/chapters different from the ones you used in the previous section on personal relation:How does learning more about what is happening within the family arena help us better understand the larger society we live in? Or vice versa, how does learning more about the larger society we live in (including historically), help us better understand what is happening within families? Support your response by providing examples from this course that help demonstrate how trends happening within families are always existing in connection to the rest of society (like trends within the economy, technology, government, regarding diversity, race/social class/gender inequality etc.) Thinking Ahead-In the final chapter of the textbook, The Future of the Family, Cohen describes 3 different types of people responding to changes in the family (Conservative, Liberal and Critical; see pgs 496-500). Where do you consider yourself to be within these 3? What information learned from this course helps support why you think a conservative, liberal or critical approach is the best for the future of families? -Many economists are worried we are about to enter a severe economic depression in this country (and globally). Based on what you’ve learned from this course, what is one of the many ways you feel this will impact life within the family arena? What do you propose we need to start doing as a society to help prepare for that impact on family? Be specific and provide supporting evidence to your claims (for example, if you claim the economic increase could likely increase divorces or fertility rates, provide some form of evidence to back up this claim).
