How do the concepts of ritual and performativity relate to one another, particularly with regard to socialization and in-group cohesion? To what extent, and in what ways, can these concepts inform our understanding of “fame-making processes” (Kerr 402), that lead to what some call “celebrity worship”? Are there useful parallels between the creation and elevation of celebrity and the creation and elevation of religious figures, or is this overly reductive?
