Assignment Question

The class has been randomly divided up into Discussion Groups. As the third (and last) of our four three Discussion Group Topics, students will be responsible for a minimum of two submissions, in a post of 4-6 sentences, each. Students will not be able to view the responses of other group members until they have provided their first post. Make an argument. Build upon what’s written already, and challenge your peers. How can you expand or elaborate on their responses? Be sure to reference the papers we have studied and lecture material in your post(s).

This assignment is 4% of the 16% grade. There is a grading rubric attached to each Discussion. Post early! Topic: From destruction of the planet’s rainforests, to overfishing in the oceans, to toxic pollution as externalities, to carbon emissions that have changed the earth’s climate and created an existential crisis in the name of economic growth and/or development; the ‘leaders’ of the world are convening in an oil-rich, top-ten-rich nation claiming that, “We are living through climate collapse in real time and the impact is devastating… and it should trigger [world leaders] to act” (https://www.cbc.ca/news/world/bakx-cop28-al-jaber-oil-deals-loss-and-damage-1.7044839Links to an external site.). But half of the world’s population lives on under $7 per day. Is it reasonable to expect developing countries to follow a different path to development than did developed countries?
