1) Provide an overview of what infrastructure systems are, provide an example of an infrastructure system (a real one), and discuss why infrastructure risk analysis is important. 2) Summarize (though in some depth) what the main approaches are that are used for infrastructure risk analysis using examples from class where possible. This part should summarize the relative strengths and weaknesses of these approaches. 3) Give an example of at least one network for at least 6 nodes and 10 edges, teach the students how to calculate three of the key network parameters (nodal degree, betweenness, and path length), calculate them for this network, and discuss why it is important to know these characteristics. You cannot use the network shown in class for this portion of the assignment. 4) Try to convince the students that they should consider studying risk analysis for infrastructure as part of their undergraduate work at UM.
