A 12-year-old Caucasian female presents to the clinic with symptoms of early onset of schizophrenia which includes the following. Her family notice she talks to people that are not real and her behavior is passive. They report she has friends that are half cat and half human and “spirits” that speak to her in her head. People on TV knows when she is home and play TV shows just for her. She has poor grades and there is no clarity to her schoolwork. They appear jumbled and full of scribbles of thoughts and ideas. She believes she can control the thoughts of others with her mind. Her grandfather is schizophrenic. She reported seeing and hearing strange things. She appeared appropriately developed for her age. No psycho-motor agitation/retardation noted. She is alert and oriented to person, place and time. Her affect is constricted, with minimal eye contact during the interview. She also seems preoccupied and states some of the TV commercials tell her what to do. She, however, denies suicidal and homicidal ideation. 1. Diagnosis: Early onset of Schizophrenia.
