Should government ration gasoline to ensure an adequate supply in the future or should the free market be allowed to work?

1)  Is there any difference between gas/medicine and the cost of other goods and services such as cars and vacations? We don’t regulate the cost of most items in our economy.  Should we distinguish between wants and needs?
