As a leader in the field in health care, it is important that you educate yourself and those who report to you on health or medical information that is not based on legitimate evidence and is questionable or inaccurate. Health care managers need to understand the types of questionable consumer health information that is out there that might affect the products and services of whatever they are involved with in their sector of the industry. Explain what the health or medical information is and who the intended audience is. Identify when and where the information was published. Evaluate the validity of the source of the information. Explain why the information is questionable, incomplete, inaccurate, and/or false. Analyze the negative effects on individual or population health, based on the dissemination and public acceptance of this information. Describe how this information affects the health care industry, health care organizations, and the actions of health care leaders.
