Lauret Savoy’s book is at its root a deeply personal account connecting American history to her own personal histories. Yet it also asks it to deeply consider the nature of history, both in terms of the environmental history all around us, and the fact that history is a deeply incomplete narrative that shifts depending on who is telling the story.
