What would you consider to be the most significant reasons for the ending of the old colonial empires ?

Question 1; Political events shook the cities of Chicago and Prague, Czechoslovakia in the summer of 1968.  What significant events happened in these two cities?  Why were the events you chose important?  What was the meaning, or point, of running “Mr. Pigasus” for President, and the statement “Socialism, yes; Occupation, No”? Question 2; The independence of many African (and other) peoples, and the formation of new nations took place in the 1960s.  What would you consider to be the most significant reasons for the ending of the old colonial empires and, based on classroom and the additional video and readings, what would you consider to be the most significant problems new countries faced?  Why?
