Choose a contemporary political issue that is fueled by religion. Present the connection between historical movements and a contemporary issue/policy regarding religion and U.S. politics. For example: 19th c. temperance & 20th/21st c drug prohibition, suppression of women in the 19th c. & 20th/21st c (reproductive rights, work equity, etc.), radicalization of fundamentalism (apolitical in the 19thc. to politicized by late 20th/21st c.), sexual politics, partisan uses of religious voters to build winning coalitions (temperance to same-sex marriage), etc. Identify the group(s) (political parties, religious denominations, think-tanks, PACS/donors, etc.) that shape, support, and fund the issue/policy, then & now.
